Emergency Simulation Exercise
On the 7th of October 2008, NRCS participated in
an annual national simulation exercise organized by Namibia
Airport Company. Key stakeholders such as City of Windhoeks
Disaster Management Unit, the Ministry of Health and Social
Services and other specialized medical rescue organizations
also took part in the exercise that took place at Hosea
Kutako International Airport. This is part of disaster
preparedness.
The exercise which is in line with the International Civil
Aviation Organization Standard and recommended practices
aimed at evaluating the capability and readiness of its
emergency response teams.
Smoke, explosion and noise was experienced as a result of
the exercise that took at least three hours to complete. At
least 250 people took part in the exercise of which 60 acted
as passengers, while others were various stakeholders such
as Red Cross volunteers, City of Windhoek emergency response
unit, hospital, immigration etc.
The exercise is demonstrated every second year.
Namibia Red Cross Society provides emergency care and
renders treatment to the casualty for injury or sudden
illness before the arrival of qualified medical personnel.
